A different means to the word Cupcake

While scouring the internet for new ideas, I came across a new "Cupcake". Now, we all like Mac'n'Cheese and if your like me, portion control is always good. Any how, I came across the Macaroni and Cheese cupcake! The think that caught my eye is it's more than just KD, there's every food group included! This has got me thinking, why not just make up a bunch and then freeze them! When the kids get hungry, it's the healthier alternative to frozen dinners!

Easter's over for another year.

Well like the title of this blog says, Easter is done for another year... That being said, it didn't come with out a great deal of sugar overload. I'd like to say it was a quiet and relaxing long weekend full of napping in front of warm window, but it was complete opposite. Instead, it was full of painting tiny squares for window casings, chasing kids around the back yard for three days, baking cookies, decorating easter eggs and a small nap for the kids! Although I'd prefer to nap and relax, it turned out to be a great weekend. Did I mention Ethan waking up at 6:00am as per usual and finding the Easter Bunny came? Oh well, the sugar overload by 9am only comes but once a year... except for christmas, valentines day, birthdays.... oh boy.

Anyways, I had some spare cookies just hanging around so I decided I should decorate them. This was the creation of my Easter Cookies or Spring Cookies if you will. I'm delighted how they turned out and I find that the fondant softens the cookies up a bit.

I think this photo just shows how yummy cookie decorating can be.

Baby Emerson

I love how this cake turned out! The Devil Chocolate tastes amazing and the Ganache turned out pretty good as well. Although, I did use unsweetened bakers chocolate instead of semi-sweet.... how to solve that problem... SUGAR! After some minor changes, everything turned out great! I made a new pattern of baby shoes from fondant and later found out that there is a cookie cutter set to make the shapes instead of cutting them by hand... I just might have to order it!

Easter's on it's way!

So before I decide to go to bed, I did some searching around for Easter ideas, I stumbled across Bakerella.com What fantastic site! I have a bunny cookie cutter already and just might try these adorable cupcakes!!

The St. Patricks Birthday Cake

So, last Wednesday (St. Patricks Day), it was our nieces first birthday! The little Irish Princess is already one! It's hard to believe how fast she's growing. With that being said, her party was held on Saturday. Of course I made the cake! I asked my sister-in-law if I could.

Friday night I decided after the kids were in bed that I'd make the cakes and decorate it. I mean, how long could a cake really take to make??? Well, the kids went to bed later than usual, and then the procrastination started.... instead of making the cake right away, we decided to watch a movie. So after the movie was done, it should have been bed time (key word... should have). I finally had the batter mixing and then realized I never doubled the recipe. At this point I believe it was 10pm. After I had the first pan in, I mixed a new batch and baked it. After cooling the cakes, it was nearing midnight. Hey, I should be known for leaving things to the last minute.... Finally at 2:45am, the cake was finished! Only, it was one layer since the second cake cracked quite badly... bummer. In the long run, it turned out great! I even had my first pair of Mary Jane's on top! The fondant shoes were much easier than I thought!

I have another cake to deliver Saturday. I think I've learnt my lesson about starting things late.

Happy St. Patricks Day!

Ok so I didn't venture out to the local pub to drink green beer, but I did make some very cute 4 leaf clover cookies. I wasn't going to do much, but since it was my nieces first bithday today, I figured the little Irish Princess should get a treat! I made just a basic roll out dough for sugar cookies and covered them in fondant. I would have made some royal icing, but as per usual, I tend to leave things until the last minute.... ie: 5 minutes before we left for the sitters! I promise some day I'll learn! Anyways, next year I'll make sure to bake and add some more decorations. To all those out drinking your green beer, I'll join you with my green tea!

First Blog

Well this is what I hope to be the first of many blogs! I decided to start this blog as a way to share what I'm truly passionate about. Cupcakes take the cake for me. There are endless flavors and decorative possibilites, plus they fit in your hand so it does count as one serving! Aside from cupcakes, I love designing wedding invitations, sewing anything I can and the occational painting. I plan on posting many photos of my many works. Hope you all enjoy!
